Public domain is described as being what gives everyone access to a specific form of media. If something is in the public domain, anyone is allowed to use it and manipulate it in any way that they choose to. Some things in the public domain could have at one point been copyrighted but that copywriter can expire and if not renewed it becomes public domain media. Governmental works are considered to be in the public domain because they are excluded from the copyright law. Media pieces created before the copyright law was put in place are also considered to be in the public domain. Public domain is how people are able to use others' works in their own works.
